BLOG 4: MY FUTURE AS A MIDWIFE

From that I started studying this career, I knew that the neonatology was my favorite area for work when I finish my studies, but in this two years of study I like also the delivery, principally because I like the humanization of delivery and the all activities that are implement in relation to this.

I like to much help people that really need and that they haven’t access to the personalized attention, for this reason I prefer work in the public system, I feel that work in conditions not very favorable is a big challenge. I hope that in a future I am part of a new generation of professionals compromised with health of persons more than for money. That is my main objective, “help to people that need”.

I think i specialize in neonatology, because i love babies, overcoat the newborns. They are very fragile, but very strong, they inspire love, softness and they can change the way see the life of any person. The newborns need a lot of care and protection.

When I would start work in the public hospital in the neonatology, I want to be a midwife more and go up through my efforts, my perseverance and my achievements as a professional of healthy.

These are my wishes for my future but life has many returns ... nobody know how much can change my life in the future years.

I choose study midwifery, because i love babies and the process at pregnancy and i like help people that need. I feel that working in the area of health I can help many person. The obstetrics professionals contribute to society with so many things such as prevention of diseases, family planning, sexual education and in public health in general.

I like study in the University of Chile. Sometimes the teachers are midwive midwifery school. I have 10 subject, but I don’t think they are important. In the first year, the most difficult subject for my, was immunology but I had good grades , but for some classmate this subject was very easy.

In my opinion the easiest way to learn is in the practical work, for example, in anatomy it has practical work and this facilitated the learning, but the classes are very good for the study, because it skewed heavily.

In this career, there are different areas to work, for example primary care, delivery and neonatology. I like neonatology, but also delivery. I like neonatology because I love babies, newborn, and help when they need, and give encouragement and hope to their parents. And I like the delivery, because now this is humanized and I like this familiar moment, share this moment of love and happiness with the parents and their new son.

The two areas, are very nice, but I have 4 years to decide.

In my opinion, the humanization of delivery is really important to create attachment to the future bonding between the mother, father and new baby. The humanization of delivery is a new practice that wants to implement in the hospitals of Chile, because this practice don’t intervene with the normal process of the delivery.

The humanization of delivery involves the physical care of the mother and her baby, and the emotional care of the mother, father and new baby.
